A CHARTER ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2 OF CHARTER ORDINANCE NO. 2 RELATING TO THE ELECTION AND APPOINTMENT OF THE CITY OFFICERS AND THE TERMS OF OFFICERS.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF BELOIT, KANSAS:

Section 1: Section 2 of Charter Ordinance No. 2 is hereby amended to read as follows:

(a)   There shall be elected on the first Tuesday in April of 2005, a Mayor and one Councilmember from each ward, who shall hold their offices for a term of three (3) years, and for each election thereafter for a term of four (4) years.

(b)   There shall be elected on the first Tuesday in April of 2006, and every four (4) years thereafter, the remaining one Councilmember from each ward, who shall hold their offices for a term of four (4) years.

(c)   No Councilmember or Mayor may be elected for more than two consecutive terms in any one position. Nothing herein shall prevent a councilmember, if eligible, from serving in another ward or as Mayor, nor the Mayor serving as a Councilmember or as Mayor after being out of office as Mayor for one term.
